Manage Project Scope

This interactive textbook fully covers the unit BSBPMG530 Manage Project Scope and is purpose-built for delivery in Australian VET environments.

It combines clear, plain-English theory with hands-on, scope-focused, software-based learning, allowing students to practise how project scope is authorised, defined, agreed, controlled and reviewed using a professional project management platform.

Students work through a realistic, end-to-end learning case study based on the Little Pear Juice Company, managing the scope of a project to roll out a new cold-pressed juice range.

Throughout the book, students use OpenProject to complete structured, guided activities that mirror real workplace scope management practice, including:

• documenting project authorisation and scope approval pathways

• defining project scope boundaries, inclusions, exclusions and assumptions

• identifying scope deliverables, outputs and acceptance criteria

• breaking approved scope into a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

• recording scope-related decisions, approvals and governance controls

• managing scope change requests using formal change-control processes

These activities are explicitly aligned to the scope management processes required by the unit and are fully guided, making them suitable for classroom delivery, workshops, and supported online learning.

Student and trainer access to OpenProject is included as part of the learning materials, with no software licensing or system administration required by the education provider.
